With the way his kit, skills and pairings work, full archers is the only reasonable troop type to take with his march.
Best Commander Pairing for Hermann (Prime)
Zhuge Liang is the strongest pairing with Hermann Prime and there can’t be two opinions about that. Their kits compliment each other so well with all the AoE damage that it is the strongest pair you can run here (See full build here).
Ashurbanipal is also an exceptional pair and you can use Hermann Prime as the secondary for some more damage mitigation or Ashurbanipal for more damage output, whatever you prefer. Along Zhuge the strongest pairings here and beasts in the open field (See full build here).
Nebuchadnezzar has pretty much the same kit as Ashurbanipal so they go mutually also really well together with Nebu as kind-of his mini-me (See full build here).
Yi-Seong Gye (YSG) is also working alright since you emphsize the AoE damage (See full build here).
Tomyris is working alright but the cross-synergy here on the expertise skill is not what many players think as the trigger is not working there so you only get the damage mitigation from the 4th skill (See full build here).
