Skill Order Finetuning
Below you will find the best order to unlock and level up skills by how useful they are so you don’t have to level the skills up one by one and spend a lot of extra sculptures on it. This will let you use this commander earlier and also saves you important Universal Sculptures in the long run!
Aethelflaed's first skill is remarkable and applies one of the strongest debuffs in Rise of Kingdoms so make sure that you will max her 1st skill (Arrow of Iron) before you star her up. Next up you can max out her 2nd skill (Thunderous Force) which is also great by reducing counterattack damage you take as well as slowing down enemy marches. From here take her to 4 stars to try get as many points into her 4th skill (Fortress of Mercia). Her synergy skill is not that mighty that you want to max it out but you will land some skill points in there. In reality, you will level her up as much anyways that you will max her out, so the skill order is more like a fine-tuning.
Your sweetspot of skills to make this commander useful is: 5515 and this is the recommended way to get there:

Best Troops

Aethelflaed doesn’t have any favorite troop type so you can bring the troops you like with her. Take care what commander you will pair her up with.

Best Commander Pairing for Aethelflaed

Saladin

Yi-Seong Gye (YSG)

Alexander the Great
Alexander the Great
Richard

Sun Tzu
Sun Tzu

Saladin is a solid commander for pairing in the open field but in that case use Aethelflaed as the secondary commander. In general you really don’t want to run in the open field with her as the primary commander. Yi-Seong Gye (YSG) is a great commander to pair Aethelflaed with if you want to use her in Sunset Canyon as they work really well together in the way their mechanics work. Alexander the Great or Constantine are also commanders you can run well along Aethelflaed in Sunset Canyon. Richard or Charles Martel are also early-stage commanders in Rise of Kingoms that you can use as primary commanders if you want to take her out to the open field. Sun Tzu is a possible pairing if you don’t have that many legendary commanders, yet, and want to run Aetheflaed.

Best Equipment Forge Order

In terms of equipment, here’s what I recommend to use as the route for Aethelflaed. I have tailored this priority order that you can follow step-by-step to prevent forging and running equipment that is not useful or only provides a very small improvement. Follow the equipment path step-by-step and you will have the best and most economical gear:

White
White equip the white gear as it will be useful. This depends what commander you use as secondary commander and therefore also what troop types you will use with the commander. You can technically also use all white equipment if you have it lying around but I#d select them more how you need them
Blessed Blade
Blessed Blade is a good gear piece, unless you run this commander along cavalry marches, as you will get solid stats for infantry and archer troops
Helm of the Phoenix
Helm of the Phoenix also offer quite broad stats that I find the most helpful of the choices you have at this point
Milanese Plate
Milanese Plate also offers broad mix of stats that work, generally, the best here
Leather Gloves
Leather Gloves are my recommended gear piece now
Ranger Trousers
Ranger Trousers are, unless you run with a cavalry only march, a great gear piece to use
Edged Boots
Edged Boots are then the last green equipment that makes sense
Blazing Axe
Blazing Axe has attack for all troops types and is the perfect gear piece at this point and the one you probably rocking the longest time altogether
Sentry Breeches
Sentry Breeches also offers stats for all troop types and are, in my opinion, the most useful gear piece to swap in now
Windswept War Helm
Windswept War Helm has no stats for all troop types but the march speed bonus that every single march appreciates
Windswept Bracers
Windswept Bracers has also march speed that is useful and with the Windswept War Helm you can now also get the 2% general attack bonus for all troops so this makes more sense than cherry picking stats from the other gear pieces
Windswept Boots
Windswept Boots are themselves not the perfect piece but we're rather going for the 4 item bonus here
Windswept Breastplate
Windswept Breastplate makes the 4 item set bonus complete now so you can get 4% additional march speed which is the most useful thing at this point
Chausses of the Glorious Goddess
Chausses of the Glorious Goddess I know it might sound weird but i recommend skipping the epic equipment here entirely as you will basically swap and switch around stats of certain troop types when in the end the new Leadership gear set is your real goal
Greaves of the Glorious Goddess
Greaves of the Glorious Goddess you will gain the set bonus with 3% flat defense on everyone
Plate of the Glorious Goddess
Plate of the Glorious Goddess gives also flat stats for all troop types
Diadem of the Glorious Goddess
Diadem of the Glorious Goddess makes you now gain a skill damage reduction of 3% which is really useful
Gauntlets of the Glorious Goddess
Gauntlets of the Glorious Goddess is also an item that gives you great stats overall
Scepter of the Glorious Goddess
Scepter of the Glorious Goddess completes the set now and although extremely hard to to obtain, will give you 5% troop health as set bonus

And for the artifacts I have tested the different ones here so you can see which ones perform the best (of course I only tested/list the ones that make sense):

Horn of Fury
Horn of Fury
Concealed Dagger
Concealed Dagger
 Ring of Doom
Ring of Doom
Delanes Amulet
Delanes Amulet
Ancient Stratagems
Ancient Stratagems
Call of the Loyal
Call of the Loyal

Horn of Fury helps her generate more rage anc cycle through her primary skill faster and is a solid pick with Aethelflaed.Concealed Dagger with the enemy debuff that targets health and as she already uses health reduction with her primary skill, you gain overall up to 45% health reduction of your enemy, that’s huge.

Best Builds For Aethelflaed

Below you will find the talent tree builds for Aethelflaed that make sense when running as the primary commander in any march in Rise of Kingdoms. Please also refer to the description below each talent tree as I explain a general route on how you should spend your talents there + some additional background for each talent build that I very likely will appreciate.

This is the best talent build to use in the open field and also in Sunset Canyon and here’s the order how you should build it… Here’s the path to build this… First goal will be getting Rejuvenate in the Support Tree. This will reward you with some extra rage every time a skill is used (not onle the active ones). This will generate more and more rage and get her rage engine rolling and should be highest priority for you building this talent build! Now get Hidden Wrath in the Leadership Tree and gain extra rage every time your troops are getting attacked. From here go up the Leadership Tree and go for Strategic Prowess which will now buff your troop’s defense every time when you use a skill (and with all the additional skill you get from the other talents that’s happening a lot more now). Now make your way to Cage of Thorns to be able to apply that march speed debuff on enemy troops which makes them unable to get away from you.
This is the build you want to use when you want to attack Barbarian Forts. First goal will be getting Rejuvenate in the Support Tree. From here get Thoroughbreds from the Peacekeeping Tree for that extra march speed. If you do attack barbarian forts frequently you will need to save some time and this will help a lot. Also, lower action point costs and more smaller benefits on the path there make it worth it. Now finalize your talent build with Fresh Recruits for more troop capacity, Domination & Killer Instinct for another stat buff and you have a well-rounded build for Aethelflead here that works great hunting down these forts.

Conclusion

I hope this guide for building Aethelflaed helped you investing without wasting much time and resources. If you liked it or you further questions (or maybe also annnotations that you believe should be added here in this guide), please don’t hesitate to post them below in the commen section. Thanks for reading and have a great day and see you out in the kingdoms.
