Best Troops
With El Cid you’ll be brawling around the open field a lot, so you also should take as many archers with you as you can, ideally a march with only archers as the march speed bonus of his 3rd skill only applies to archers and other troops will slow you down.
Best Commander Pairing for El Cid
Frederick is a nice commander to pair El Cid with if you want to brawl around in the open field (See full build here).
Julius Caesar is, like Freddy, a very nice commander pairing for open field (See full build here).
Mehmed II can also make a good open field pairing along El Cid, just like Frederick or Caesar (See full build here).
Yi-Seong Gye (YSG) is a phenomenal option for rallying with El Cid primary. They work hand-in-hand and share a ton of synergies (See full build here).
Ramesses also is a great pairing along El Cid and the shared archer synergy is absolutely worth it (See full build here).

Best Talent Tree Builds For El Cid
Below you will find the talent tree builds for El Cid that make sense when running as the primary commander in any march in Rise of Kingdoms. Please also refer to the description below each talent tree as I explain a general route on how you should spend your talents there + some additional background for each talent build that I very likely will appreciate.

This is the best build for any open field activity you’re planning to do with a lot of range and also march speed that is really needed for that. Like I said, you want to get the damage but also the speed so when rebuilding this on your El Cid that is not fully maxed (what probably is the case), you want to create this build as follows:
Skill (30 Points) – you need to march speed here or you won’t catch other armies or give them the opportunity to flee from you. In open field speed is key. Working to get the 6% additional march speed is key here.
Archer (46 Points) – this is the talent tree that will add some damage that you also need, especially when using a full archer army, what you actually should with El Cide.
The key here is to get as much as possible without forgetting the extra march speed in the skill tree. Spend all the leftover points here in the Archer Tree.

This build here is a secondary build similar to the one above but with less rage. I’d actually favor the build with the rage, simply because it will make your disarming skill drop faster and give you a greater advantage – but I know several people that swear by this build here so I also wanted to show it to you.
Especially if you run a secondary commander with El Cid that generates some nice amount of rage you can use this to get more damage. The points are not that different here and the only difference compared to the build above is that you will go further down the skill tree before using the Archer tree, that’s it. Again, it’s an alternative build and as always it depends on your personal favors which one you will like more.

As rallying objectives is also one of the strengths of El Cid, there’s the build to use him as the rally leader. Especially in KvK this build was used heavily but it still has some solid points and is up to date.
Skill (44 Points) – get Rejuvenate as fast as possible to get the restored rage, really helpful in my opinion. After that Feral Nature should be your next goal in the skill tree
Archer (30 Points) – now it’s time to work on the Archer tree and the first step would be to unlock Razor Sharp and Venomous Sting after that. If you got this you basically got it all done and the rest of your points is more like spending to spend them. I think the best option is getting Rapid Fire and Arrows Nocked in the archer tree as well because this makes most sense for this build.
Best Formation + Armaments
Formation and Armaments are supposed to work perfectly with your commanders kit or you will find yourself very quickly in a disadvantage on the battlefield – and with so many variations it can be tough to stay on top. Here is what the works best in today’s meta:

Conclusion
I hope this guide for building El Cid helped you investing without wasting much time and resources. If you liked it or you further questions (or maybe also annnotations that you believe should be added here in this guide), please don’t hesitate to post them below in the commen section. Thanks for reading and have a great day and see you out in the kingdoms.
