Below you will find the best order to unlock and level up skills by how useful they are so you don’t have to level the skills up one by one and spend a lot of extra sculptures on it. This will let you use this commander earlier and also saves you important Universal Sculptures in the long run!
Your sweetspot of skills to make this commander useful is: 5555 and this is the recommended way to get there:

Best Troops

With El Cid you’ll be brawling around the open field a lot, so you also should take as many archers with you as you can, ideally a march with only archers as the march speed bonus of his 3rd skill only applies to archers and other troops will slow you down.

Best Commander Pairing for El Cid

Frederick

Ramesses
Ramesses

Frederick is a nice commander to pair El Cid with if you want to brawl around in the open field. Julius Caesar is, like Freddy, a very nice commander pairing for open field. Mehmed II can also make a good open field pairing along El Cid, just like Frederick or Caesar. Yi-Seong Gye (YSG) is a phenomenal option for rallying with El Cid primary. They work hand-in-hand and share a ton of synergies. Ramesses also is a great pairing along El Cid and the shared archer synergy is absolutely worth it.

Best Equipment Forge Order

In terms of equipment, here’s what I recommend to use as the route for El Cid. I have tailored this priority order that you can follow step-by-step to prevent forging and running equipment that is not useful or only provides a very small improvement. Follow the equipment path step-by-step and you will have the best and most economical gear:

Chain Mail
Chain Mail is super cheap to craft and gives some attack so it's the best first gear item to craft and equip
Sturdy Boots
Sturdy Boots will give some defense and gathering speed which is not too exciting but they are also cheap to craft and give at least a few stats and should be your second gear item to equip
Helm of the Phoenix
Helm of the Phoenix is the first green item to craft and equip and although the stats overall are not too impressive, at this early stage they still help and are a solid progress
Leather Gloves
Leather Gloves gives some health which is always good (and I mentioned numerous times that health is the strongest stat in the game) so you can't go wrong now with this as your next gear item, espcially considering the low crafting costs
Ranger Trousers
Ranger Trousers is also not too exciting but the only green piece that gives any stats to archers so take it
Blessed Blade
Blessed Blade is the last open gear slot to equip and the reason why I recommend this last is that archers normally don't have a huge problem with attack and this item provides attack), they normally struglge more with durability in combats so this will make you deal more damage which is fine but doesn't help with any defensive stats at all - for that reason I recommend this gear item last here
Commanders Heavy Armor
Commanders Heavy Armor is the next gear piece and you should skip the green one here for sure as it is even worst for archer stats than the white gear piece you're having, so get the blue directly and save yourself some crafting resources and the health increase you get here is quite massive
Staff of the Lost
Staff of the Lost should be the next gear to replace the green one, for the simple reason that you can now get defense instead of attack which makes your march a lot more durable and reliable
Greaves of the Exile
Greaves of the Exile is like the weapon the next logical step as it is now available and you should have the resources to craft it
Flame Treads
Flame Treads now finally replace the white boots. There was simply nothing good available so far that made sense so you have rather saved resources by jumping from white to epic directly and with massive 5.5% health it's a great gear item that set you up well here

How to unlock

And for the artifacts I have tested the different ones here so you can see which ones perform the best (of course I only tested/list the ones that make sense):

Horn of Fury

Ring of Doom

Moras Web

Pendant of Eternal Night

Horn of Fury will let El Cid cycle through is active skill more frequently so you can use it more often. Along the talent build that will keep rolling faster and faster.Ring of Doom just adds flat extra damage by percentage and this affects all damage he deals, from normal to skill damage and everything in between.

Best Builds For El Cid

Below you will find the talent tree builds for El Cid that make sense when running as the primary commander in any march in Rise of Kingdoms. Please also refer to the description below each talent tree as I explain a general route on how you should spend your talents there + some additional background for each talent build that I very likely will appreciate.

This is the best build for any open field activity you’re planning to do with a lot of range and also march speed that is really needed for that. Like I said, you want to get the damage but also the speed so when rebuilding this on your El Cid that is not fully maxed (what probably is the case), you want to create this build as follows:Skill (30 Points) – you need to march speed here or you won’t catch other armies or give them the opportunity to flee from you. In open field speed is key. Working to get the 6% additional march speed is key here.Archer (46 Points) – this is the talent tree that will add some damage that you also need, especially when using a full archer army, what you actually should with El Cide. The key here is to get as much as possible without forgetting the extra march speed in the skill tree. Spend all the leftover points here in the Archer Tree.
This build here is a secondary build similar to the one above but with less rage. I’d actually favor the build with the rage, simply because it will make your disarming skill drop faster and give you a greater advantage – but I know several people that swear by this build here so I also wanted to show it to you.Especially if you run a secondary commander with El Cid that generates some nice amount of rage you can use this to get more damage. The points are not that different here and the only difference compared to the build above is that you will go further down the skill tree before using the Archer tree, that’s it. Again, it’s an alternative build and as always it depends on your personal favors which one you will like more.
As rallying objectives is also one of the strengths of El Cid, there’s the build to use him as the rally leader. Especially in KvK this build was used heavily but it still has some solid points and is up to date.Skill (44 Points) – get Rejuvenate as fast as possible to get the restored rage, really helpful in my opinion. After that Feral Nature should be your next goal in the skill treeArcher (30 Points) – now it’s time to work on the Archer tree and the first step would be to unlock Razor Sharp and Venomous Sting after that. If you got this you basically got it all done and the rest of your points is more like spending to spend them. I think the best option is getting Rapid Fire and Arrows Nocked in the archer tree as well because this makes most sense for this build.

Conclusion

I hope this guide for building El Cid helped you investing without wasting much time and resources. If you liked it or you further questions (or maybe also annnotations that you believe should be added here in this guide), please don’t hesitate to post them below in the commen section. Thanks for reading and have a great day and see you out in the kingdoms.
