Best Trajan Builds (Talents, Skill Order, Pairing & Equipment) In Rise of Kingdoms

rise of kingdoms best trajan builds

Overall, Trajan has an amazing kit of talents that you want to use. Although in reality you will find very rare occasions where you’re able to actually have all of them applied, his kit is incredibly strong. If you want to get all out of this and use him among several allied marches, you will run a great commander that can skyrocket your marches effectively.

Trajan Role

Trajan is clearly a support commander that uses AoE buffs so using him in situations where you have many allied marches around him and staying into battle long, this commander will change results for everyone effectively.

Current Ranking – is Trajan S-Tier, A-Tier, or D-Tier?!

See how Trajan is ranking in the different game modes of Rise of Kingdoms in my current tier list here.

Skill Order

When you star up Trajan, you also unlock a new skill. This helps you fine-tune in what order you want to upgrade your skills as not all skills are equally good for him. This helps to invest your sculptures more reasonably to get the biggest bang for your buck.

His primary skill will deal some damage factor but most importantly give all surrounding ally marches a huge skill damage boost, generating rage along the way as well. The downside of getting a debuff himself decreasing the small skill damage factor he deals. So to make as much as possible out of that you really want to make sure to use him with enough ally marches around him.

His second skill is amazing for Ark of Osiris and Canyon as you get a huge defense and health boost. But you need to be off territory so that priority changes how you want to use Trajan in Rise of Kingdoms.

The third buff will work amazing with mixed troops types and give you additional damage factor and troop capacity plus increased damage dealt to the enemies.

With his 4th skill you will stack additional defense over time and this will become a lot the longer you are in battle, in total 60% defense. The reality is, you will very rarely be in fights that last long enough to apply all stacks of that buff.

Putting this all together, all skills are really helpful so maxing them all one by one – or I’d rather max out the first skill, take him to the 3rd skill and max them out until unlocking the 4th skill. After all you want to aim expertise him anyway so this is more micro-amangement.

Best Troops

With his 3rd skill and all other dependencies, Trajan NEEDS to be used with mixed troop types to get the most out of him (and that means you need to bring all 3 different troops types).

Best Commander Pairing

The most important thing you want to pair Trajan with is a commander that is at least okay with running mixed troop marches. It doesn’t need to be a commander that demands that but one that hasn’t have negative effects from running mixed troops:

The dream team of pairing Trajan for me is running him Harald Sigurdsson for the reason that Haralds 4th skill counts as an active skill and will trigger most of Trajan’s talents (see that below) so the synergy is incredibly high.

Another good setup to use is running Aethelflaed primary to hide your Trajan as he will get hunt down with priority and enjoy the synergies both of the commanders share.

With Cyrus you also have a nice setup and punish every player hunting Trajan where you can punish really well as Cyrus will start dealing AoE damage as soon as getting attacked. The small downside is that Cyrus cares a lot about Archers so you miss out on some of the potentials here.

Constantine is also a pair to think about as he will buff all troop types, Hannibal Barca for the AoE debuff for a crazy buffing march, Alexander with the bufferful protective buff are also options to consider.

Best Equipment

In terms of equipment, here’s what I recommend to use as the route for Trajan:

Gear Starter Required
Helmet Helm of Phoenix Helm of Phoenix
Chest Infantry Breastplate Windswept Breastplate
Weapon Vanguard Halberd Staff of the Lost
Gloves Leather Gloves Seth’s Brutality
Leggins Vanguard Greaves Gladiator
Boots Sturdy Boots Windswept Boots
Forge Time 26 Days 120 Days

You have at the left side the absolute starter setup that you want to get when running him and at the right side you have the setup that most players run with this commander. ATTENTION! The best possible whale setup is NOT included here as it will not be obtainable for most players and I don’t want to list “best-of-the-best” here just for the sake of having it here. If you’re able to et the best gear for this commander, you don’t need to follow these recommendations anyway.

Best Builds For Trajan

Looking at Trajan realiticly, you should run him as the primary commander to get all his talent buffs going – and for me, there’s only one talent build that really makes sense:

Basically everything in this talent build is working hand-in-hand with Trajan’s skills. You want to get Rejuvenate in the Support Tree first, this will boost 150 extra Rage everytime Trajan uses his primary skill and applies his buff. This will make his primary skill appear faster again, generating this extra rage again and so on.

Then go to Strategix Prowess in the Leadership Tree, this will improve defense every time his active skill is used – and with Rejuvenate you already made sure that this is happening faster and faster so you will have that amazing 20% defense buff active a lot.

And with Loose Formation in the Support Tree then you reduce all skill damage taken so you further reduce the skill damage you take by further taking skill damage. Then Emergency Protection will reduce that even further everytime you take skill damage.

That’s a perfect setup to withstand in most brawls with Trajan and make his powerful apply to as many allies as it can.

Attention! Running Trajan with a healing commander? Well, then you should swap the left side talents in the Leadership Tree (Armored to the Teeth) and invest them into the healing-based talents (Counterattack) in the Support Tree.
