Best Troops
If you use Alexander as the primary commander, you also need to use infantry units as well. The reason is that his third skill march speed bonus, which is huge and super important, only applies to infantry units. Also, the only talent builds that really make sense with him are also designed around the infantry talent tree.
Best Commander Pairing for Alexander the Great
Yi-Seong Gye (YSG) is a universal pairing that provides dama ge and durability as they work well together so you can rally with them or run the open field. Mind this is for newer kingdoms only when there’s none of the newer and more powerful legendary commanders available (See full build here).
Charles Martel is a a good pairing, although their shields will NOT stack. It still works great (stacking their shields would theoretically make them invincible) (See full build here).
El Cid is also a commander that can work pairing with Alexander in the earlier stages of a kingdom (See full build here).
Sun Tzu is a good choice if you donÄt have many legendary commanders, yet as you will generate loads of rage (See full build here).
Guan Yu along Alexander is solid setup for Sunset Canyon, too (See full build here).

Best Talent Tree Builds For Alexander the Great
Below you will find the talent tree builds for Alexander the Great that make sense when running as the primary commander in any march in Rise of Kingdoms. Please also refer to the description below each talent tree as I explain a general route on how you should spend your talents there + some additional background for each talent build that I very likely will appreciate.

As I said, there’s only one viable build that you should use with Alexander and the reason is that his Versatility Tree is rubbish and doesn’t fit him very well. You won’t use Alexander in your garrison to defend you city so most talents there are nothing than a waste.
Don’t spend any thoughts or talent points in the Versatility Tree and rather use this build to unlock his full power.
Here’s the order how you should spend your talent points on him:
First of all you go up the branches in the Infantry Tree and going straight left first to get Strong of Body on the left side. After that go to the right path and get Fleet of Foot – both of them are really well working. After that, make your way up to the top.
You will only use him with a full infantry army so getting Elite Soldiers here in the Infantry Tree as the ultimate talent is only the logical step.
After you’ve done that it’s time to tackle the Attack Tree and as you probably know from my other talent tree build guides you want to get Effortless there as fast as possible because it’s the sweetest talent you can get there.
Now, depending on how far you leveld up your Alexander you might have some extra talent points left that you should start to spend down to Armored Joints.
Martial Mastery is then your final goal here for your last talent points. The nice thing here is it will only reduce your skill damage but you don’t run any skill damage with Alexander (and hopefully you did a well pairing with a secondary commander, so your secondary commander won’t deal skill damage either). So this is a real no-brainer to take without any negatives on Alexander.
Don’t mess around with any other talent tree build – this is the one you really want and need to use and that’s it.
Best Formation + Armaments
Formation and Armaments are supposed to work perfectly with your commanders kit or you will find yourself very quickly in a disadvantage on the battlefield – and with so many variations it can be tough to stay on top. Here is what the works best in today’s meta:

Conclusion
I hope this guide for building Alexander the Great helped you investing without wasting much time and resources. If you liked it or you further questions (or maybe also annnotations that you believe should be added here in this guide), please don’t hesitate to post them below in the commen section. Thanks for reading and have a great day and see you out in the kingdoms.
So Alex and Charles’ shields do not stack, ok, but does Charles’ shield trigger the defense boost from Alex’ 4th skill?
