Skill Order

When you star up Alexander the Great, you also unlock a new skill. This helps you fine-tune in what order you want to upgrade the skills of your commander as not all skills are equally good and worth maxing or worth maxing first (in general) – this helps to invest your sculptures more reasonably to get the biggest bang for your buck.

Like with every legendary commander in Rise of Kingdoms you want to max out his first skill before you star him up. Then, at 2-Star, you want to max out his second skill as well as it’s super helpful in so many other situations.

From here it’s a tough spot and also depends where you want to take Alexander in the mid-future. If you will max him out (what you should really do) and he’s the commander right on top of your priority list right now take him to 4-Star and pump all points into his skills as his 4th skill is really nice.

If you do work on other commanders as well right now and you primarily use Alexander in the open field, do the 3-Star and max out his 3rd skill before getting him to 4-Star.

Best Troops

If you use Alexander as the primary commander, you also need to use infantry units as well. The reason is that his third skill march speed bonus, which is huge and super important, only applies to infantry units. Also, the only talent builds that really make sense with him are also designed around the infantry talent tree.

Best Commander Pairing for Alexander the Great

Yi-Seong Gye (YSG) is a universal pairing that provides dama ge and durability as they work well together so you can rally with them or run the open field. Mind this is for newer kingdoms only when there’s none of the newer and more powerful legendary commanders available. Find the talent builds for Yi-Seong Gye (YSG) here.
Charles Martel is a a good pairing, although their shields will NOT stack. It still works great (stacking their shields would theoretically make them invincible). Find the talent builds for Charles Martel here.
El Cid is also a commander that can work pairing with Alexander in the earlier stages of a kingdom. Find the talent builds for El Cid here.
Sun Tzu is a good choice if you donÄt have many legendary commanders, yet as you will generate loads of rage. Find the talent builds for Sun Tzu here.
Guan Yu along Alexander is solid setup for Sunset Canyon, too. Find the talent builds for Guan Yu here.

Best Equipment

In terms of equipment, here’s what I recommend to use as the route for Alexander the Great:
Infantry doesn’t have a favored gear set that you should go for in general, but I recommend aiming to equip this commander with Windswept items as basic equipment and then start aiming for Witch’s Lineage, Quinn’s Soul, Gatekeeper’s Shield, Seth,s Brutality, Kuruak’s Humility and Frost Treads when you gear it towards max.

Horn of Fury helps Alexander the Great cycle through his active skill as quickly as possible and is a accessory that makes a lot of sense using with him.
Ring of Doom adds more damage on percent so this also scales well with Alexander’s shole kit.

Best Builds For Alexander the Great

Below you will find the talent tree builds for Alexander the Great that make sense when running as the primary commander in any march in Rise of Kingdoms. Please also refer to the description below each talent tree as I explain a general route on how you should spend your talents there + some additional background for each talent build that I very likely will appreciate.

As I said, there’s only one viable build that you should use with Alexander and the reason is that his Versatility Tree is rubbish and doesn’t fit him very well. You won’t use Alexander in your garrison to defend you city so most talents there are nothing than a waste.

Don’t spend any thoughts or talent points in the Versatility Tree and rather use this build to unlock his full power.

Here’s the order how you should spend your talent points on him:

First of all you go up the branches in the Infantry Tree and going straight left first to get Strong of Body on the left side. After that go to the right path and get Fleet of Foot – both of them are really well working. After that, make your way up to the top.

You will only use him with a full infantry army so getting Elite Soldiers here in the Infantry Tree as the ultimate talent is only the logical step.

After you’ve done that it’s time to tackle the Attack Tree and as you probably know from my other talent tree build guides you want to get Effortless there as fast as possible because it’s the sweetest talent you can get there.

Now, depending on how far you leveld up your Alexander you might have some extra talent points left that you should start to spend down to Armored Joints.

Martial Mastery is then your final goal here for your last talent points. The nice thing here is it will only reduce your skill damage but you don’t run any skill damage with Alexander (and hopefully you did a well pairing with a secondary commander, so your secondary commander won’t deal skill damage either). So this is a real no-brainer to take without any negatives on Alexander.

Don’t mess around with any other talent tree build – this is the one you really want and need to use and that’s it.

I hope this guide for building Alexander the Great helped you investing without wasting much time and resources. If you liked it or you further questions (or maybe also annotation that you believe should be added here in this guide), please don’t hesitate to post them below in the commen section. Thanks for reading and have a great day and see you out in the kingdoms.

  1. So Alex and Charles’ shields do not stack, ok, but does Charles’ shield trigger the defense boost from Alex’ 4th skill?
