The Wandering Balloon let us re-play past Voyage of Wonders realms and the realm that just got added is The Blighted Highlands, a really nice Voyage of Wonders we had back in February 2021 and it will be available in the Wandering Balloon starting June 11th, 2022. It’s a winter-themed realm where you have to guide an Ice Elemental through the map to destroy it.
The Blighted Highlands General & Rewards
Overall, it’s not that hard to solve (we had tougher realms before), but it’s not one of those that are just straightforward so you can expect some entertainment.
You basically need to use the fire cannons to make the Ice Elemental hunt the fire to guide it to the final spot, that’s the main taks in short for The Blighted Highland.
Of course, the rewards have changed since it was in Voyage of Wonders and now you will get 10x Faction Scrolls as the main reward:
Along with that, some basic boosters, coins and emblems as you see them in other Wandering Balloon realms.

The Blighted Highlands Walkthrough
As always, you will find a full walkthrough for the realm here:
Step 1 – the beginning is straightforward, walk to the right and use the first Dwarven Cannon you will see there. This will start an explosion and light up that fire stone and the Ice Elemental will go there to shut down the fire.
Right next to it you will have a Golden Chest that you should collect as well now.
Step 2 – now walk upwards until you see the Dwarven Cannon on the tracks and move it to the right spot before you will take out that camp and take the Golden Chest as well.
There’s also a camp and a Golden Chest to the left side that you need to collect and then you can fire up that Dwarven Cannon and it will set the next stone altar on fire and the Ice Elemental will go there.
Step 3 – now go ahead towards the top and you will see some camps and Golden Chests there as well. Clean them up and then you will see the next track with a Dwarven Cannon on it. Move the cannon to the left position.
Don’t use the cannon now, you need to remove that magical shield first. You can do that by walking to the right where you see a colored switch that you need to use once:
Now you can use the Dwarven Cannon and you will make all these explosives blow up.
Step 4 – now follow the open path towards the top again and you will get to another track where you see some explosives on it. Move that to the upper position as I have tagged you here in the image:
Here’s now an important part: go back and move the cannon on the track to the right position (1), then use the shield switch once (2) and then fire the cannon (3):
If you don’t do that, the Ice ELemental will follow the wrong path and not freeze the right tiles for you…
Step 5 – now follow the path to the top part of The Blighted Highlands and you will see another shield switch that you need to use. Once used, use the Dwarven Cannon to the left without changing anything.
This will make the left part of the explosives blow up but keep the right side, that’s important.
Now move the Dwarven Cannon on the tracks to the bottom position (1), then use the shield switch again (2) and then use the cannon (3):
This makes the Ice Elemental take the correct route.
Step 6 – now use that shield lever once more to set it to the blue position and walk up to use the red lever once (to the right position):
Clean up the the camp on top of the map and collect the Golden Chest.
Step 7 – if you followed my guide you now need to walk towards that last cannon on the top left section of The Blighted Highlands and only use the cannon:
Important! Double-check if the shield lever is on the blue position, otherwise you will make a mistake here!
This will take the Ice Elemental to the last station and destroy it and you will see one of the two Crystal Chests appear. Collect it 🙂
Now use the lever once again and set it to the red position and then use the cannon once more, this will release the top Golden Chest:
Step 8 – now you have only the final fight in front of you. Make sure to have Anoki in your team or you’ll not be able to obtain the final chest:
That’s it, you just have finished The Blighted Highlands!
