Best Troops

Cavalry. All cavalry. His skills and some talents are built around running as much cavalry as you can. I mean he has no skill or talent requiring to run cavalry exclusively, but if you want all the buffs you need to run as much cavalry as possible with Bertrand.

Best Commander Pairing for Bertrand

Alexander Nevsky

Mulan

Alexander Nevsky without a doubt. You will get loads of damage from Nevsky, good synergy also on the cavalry and Bertrand adds the survivability that makes the pairing less a glass cannon as you would have it with Nevsky. Cao Cao is also a valid pairing as he also adds a healing factor and more importantly adds some additional rage generation that is missing from Bertrand talent trees a little bit. Trajan For open field, running a support commander as the secondary commander adds a lot of versatility. I like running Trajan. Aethelflaed can be an option although not as viable as the pairings above. Mulan can be an option although not as viable as the pairings above.

Best Equipment Forge Order

In terms of equipment, here’s what I recommend to use as the route for Bertrand. I have tailored this priority order that you can follow step-by-step to prevent forging and running equipment that is not useful or only provides a very small improvement. Follow the equipment path step-by-step and you will have the best and most economical gear:

Sharp Longsword
Sharp Longsword is a great and super easy to get piece of equipment and the +5% defense for cavalry optimal
Coarse Breeches
Coarse Breeches also a super low-hanging fruit here with extra attack for cavalry units
Milanese Plate
Milanese Plate is the very first chest piece as there is nothing prior that makes sense equipping for cavalry
Bronze Bracers
Bronze Bracers are not the greatest equip gear overall but they give some cavalry defense and are the first viable option for this slot
Helm of Fear
Helm of Fear is the first helm piece to craft now. It has attack, which is not the best to have that early and you rather want defense but you can at least get some attack bonus from it
Edged Boots
Edged Boots are the last open equipment slot and should be the last equipment piece to equip since the small attack bonus is the least benefit here, but it gives a litte extra attack on cavalry so it's worth it
Vanguard Halberd
Vanguard Halberd should now replace your white weapon and it is incredible good for a green equipment offering a good defense boost that you really need at this point
Vanguard Greaves
Vanguard Greaves are your choice here and with the Vanguard Helbred in place you will also get the additional set bonus so you have all green equipment now with a nice bonus and good amount of total stats
Windswept Boots
Windswept Boots are the first blue gear you should equip after you have all equipment above equipped and it's an incredible gear piece where every stat is on point
Windswept Bracers
Windswept Bracers is the next equipment to replace the Bronze Bracers and it will give you great stats with health and march speed that is quite perfect + you will get the small attack buff as you now have two Windswept gear pieces active

How to unlock

And for the artifacts I have tested the different ones here so you can see which ones perform the best (of course I only tested/list the ones that make sense):

Horn of Fury

Ring of Doom

Pendant of Eternal Night

Concealed Dagger

Silent Trial

Delanes Amulet

Call of the Loyal

Horn of Fury is a accessory that fits so well with Bertrand as it has a chance to generate extra rage with every normal attack and is a little exra rage engine that helps Bertrand cycle through his active skill quicker.Ring of Doom is just an incredible accessory to run as you have the chance to deal extra damage and this contributes so well with Bertrand. If you know you rally and get swarmed with Bertrand, Vengeance is also a valid option here to deal a ton of extra counterattack damage.

Best Builds For Bertrand

Below you will find the talent tree builds for Bertrand that make sense when running as the primary commander in any march in Rise of Kingdoms. Please also refer to the description below each talent tree as I explain a general route on how you should spend your talents there + some additional background for each talent build that I very likely will appreciate.

As I mentioned a couple of times above, Bertrand’s primary and almost exclusive use-case in Rise of Kingdoms is running as primary commander in rally situations and for me, there’s only one talent build that really makes sense (with some adaption if you want to, but more on that below). With Emblazoned Shield and Disarm, you will get two really good talents that reduce the damage taken and also with useful talents on the way. Undying Fury is also useful for the extra rage generation that Bertrand really needs wherever possible.Buckler Shield in the Conquering Tree is also useful to reduce the counterattack damage and the flat attack bonus buff on the way there is also welcome to boost damage up.In the Defense Tree you can pick up more useful talents and you have a pretty stable one.If you don’t want to use Disarm in the Cavalry Tree as you prefer to have a more flat buff instead of one that triggers with a 10% chance (still, I personally believe that Disarm is a must-have so I only give you the options) – you might want to invest those points into Medicinal Supplies in the Defense Tree that will give some healing factor. You might want to try both setups of talents to see what will suit you more.

Conclusion

I hope this guide for building Bertrand helped you investing without wasting much time and resources. If you liked it or you further questions (or maybe also annnotations that you believe should be added here in this guide), please don’t hesitate to post them below in the commen section. Thanks for reading and have a great day and see you out in the kingdoms.
