Are you planning to or already running Bertrand in Rise of Kingdoms in one of your marches and want to see how you should invest the talent points, what equipment works best and what other commanders you should pair with? Well, then you’re in the right place, below you will find answer to each one of those questions and this will help you make your Bertrand perfrom as strong as possible in all situations.
Current Ranking – is Bertrand S-Tier, A-Tier, or D-Tier?!
See how Bertrand is ranking in the different game modes of Rise of Kingdoms in my current tier list here.

Skill Order
When you star up Bertrand, you also unlock a new skill. This helps you fine-tune in what order you want to upgrade the skills of your commander as not all skills are equally good and worth maxing or worth maxing first (in general) – this helps to invest your sculptures more reasonably to get the biggest bang for your buck.
The main reason you need to actually max Bertrand out is that he is all about being the primary commander in rallying so there’s no way to run him without being maxed successfully, although his expertise doesn’t contribute that much as it does with other commanders.
If you really must or want, I’d max out his first two skills and work on the 3rd one after when taking him “pre-maturely” to your marches. The 4th skill is the skill with the least contribution and the healing factor doesn’t fall into account that much. But we’re talking real fine-tuning on a more theoretical level here – my recommendation is to max him out if you want to run him properly.
Best Troops
Cavalry. All cavalry. His skills and some talents are built around running as much cavalry as you can. I mean he has no skill or talent requiring to run cavalry exclusively, but if you want all the buffs you need to run as much cavalry as possible with Bertrand.
Best Commander Pairing for Bertrand
In theory, you can pair Bertrand up with lots of commanders as his kit is quite universal with adding tankiness but when looking at his main strengths (rally), there are only a couple commander that make sense and I’d always run Bertrand as the primary commander

Best Equipment
In terms of equipment, here’s what I recommend to use as the route for Bertrand:
As Cavalry Commander, you want to equipt with the normal cavalry equipment gear pieces, starting with Windswept Set And Vanguard Set as the basic equipment to put onto him. From there you can take it to the more advanced equipment pieces

Best Builds For Bertrand
Below you will find the talent tree builds for Bertrand that make sense when running as the primary commander in any march in Rise of Kingdoms. Please also refer to the description below each talent tree as I explain a general route on how you should spend your talents there + some additional background for each talent build that I very likely will appreciate.
As I mentioned a couple of times above, Bertrand’s primary and almost exclusive use-case in Rise of Kingdoms is running as primary commander in rally situations and for me, there’s only one talent build that really makes sense (with some adaption if you want to, but more on that below).
With Emblazoned Shield and Disarm, you will get two really good talents that reduce the damage taken and also with useful talents on the way. Undying Fury is also useful for the extra rage generation that Bertrand really needs wherever possible.
Buckler Shield in the Conquering Tree is also useful to reduce the counterattack damage and the flat attack bonus buff on the way there is also welcome to boost damage up.
In the Defense Tree you can pick up more useful talents and you have a pretty stable one.
If you don’t want to use Disarm in the Cavalry Tree as you prefer to have a more flat buff instead of one that triggers with a 10% chance (still, I personally believe that Disarm is a must-have so I only give you the options) – you might want to invest those points into Medicinal Supplies in the Defense Tree that will give some healing factor. You might want to try both setups of talents to see what will suit you more.
Conclusion
I hope this guide for building Bertrand helped you investing without wasting much time and resources. If you liked it or you further questions (or maybe also annnotations that you believe should be added here in this guide), please don’t hesitate to post them below in the commen section. Thanks for reading and have a great day and see you out in the kingdoms.
