Skill Order

When you star up Yi Sun-Sin (YSS), you also unlock a new skill. This helps you fine-tune in what order you want to upgrade the skills of your commander as not all skills are equally good and worth maxing or worth maxing first (in general) – this helps to invest your sculptures more reasonably to get the biggest bang for your buck.

In the long run you want to expertise YSS when you plan on using him as your garrison captain as the treats are just too powerful to ignore. If you want to optimize your road there, I recommend that you max out his first skill before taking him to 2-Star. From here max out his 2nd skill and take him to 4-Star and hope to land as many points in his 4th skill that is simply a lot more powerful than his 3rd skill. But again, that’s your optimized road there and you want to go to expertised with him after all.

Best Troops

YSS works best with all troop types and actually his expertise skill wants you to use at least two different troops types (which is the case when defending).

Best Commander Pairing for Yi Sun-Sin (YSS)

Theodora is one of the two commanders that make sense pairing along YSS. She has incredible anti-swarm abilities and deals damage to multiple targets at once so they work really well together. Find the talent builds for Theodora here.
Wu Zetian deals well with rally armies and along YSS they will make a great defensive team. Find the talent builds for Wu Zetian here.

Best Equipment

In terms of equipment, here’s what I recommend to use as the route for Yi Sun-Sin (YSS): For the basic equipment as a Leadership commander, I’d go with Helm of the Phoenix, Windswepts Breast, Staff of the Lost, Seth’s Brutality gloves, Gladiator pants and Windswept Boots. From there you can take it to more but I honestly don’t see many situations where you would run him as the primary commander

Ring of Doom helps YSS deal more damage and it also applies to counterattack damage and all other damage and is a great legendary accessory to use.
Horn of Fury for normal situations will work best as you will generate more rage and let him cycle through his active skill faster, when you think you get swarmed use Vengeance instead.

Best Builds For Yi Sun-Sin (YSS)

Below you will find the talent tree builds for Yi Sun-Sin (YSS) that make sense when running as the primary commander in any march in Rise of Kingdoms. Please also refer to the description below each talent tree as I explain a general route on how you should spend your talents there + some additional background for each talent build that I very likely will appreciate.

This is, in my opinion, the best talent build to use with YSS as the primary commander for defending structures. As you don’t want to use YSS as the primary commander unless you have him upgraded fairly well, there’s no real recommended order here as all talents will add damage reduction, more damage when defeding or increasing stats and counterattack damage.
