Best Teams in SOULS (Team-Builder Kit)

I got so many questions about posting the best teams in SOULS that I wanted to make a guide for that – but I admit I had some struggles as I didn’t just want to throw like 10 teams here (like other websites do, *cough cough*) that 90% of you can’t use because they all resolve around some strong meta heroes that most players either don’t have or haven’t built to a level that will make them the strong heroes in SOULS they are.

So how do I approach this?!

Well, unlike other games that are similar to SOULS the teambuilding is less complex as the buffs and synergies that mist heroes have are more based on their role (e.g. tanking, healing, enemy control, support buffing etc.) and not very spcific, like buffing specific attacks or require specific triggers.

How Team Building in SOULS Work

This means team building in SOULS comes down to these main aspect:

  • Frontline: you always use either 1 or 2 frontline heroes, they take the most of the damage and keep all other heroes safe while your goal is to make them survive
  • Midline: is where heroes are that provide normally damage and also can take some hits, ideally also counterattack. The concept here is actually pretty easy, only frontline and backline makes your team incredible vulnerable so you always want to have 1 hero in the mid line, that’s it for 93% of the times.
  • Backline: Here are your support, healers and your ranged damage dealers

As you can see, this sounds simple and the beautiful part that I love is that you don’t have to fine-tune your account and hero roaster in SOULS into a certain direction, you can use this ‘template’ to set up your team based what you’re against and based what you have.

Attention! The only expection here is Cave of Abyss, there certain bosses are specifically vulnerable against certain heroes or combinations! I have a guide on the best heroes for the different bosses in Cave of Abyss in SOULS here.

But how do you choose your heroes? Well, I have below a list of heroes ordered by their position so you can pick the strongest ones for them, but one last thing before we get into it…

What About Racial Synergies?

Important question! I know the other sites you see go crazy about the race buffs and how you can gain… but to be honest you shouldn’t care too much!

souls racial bonus

I mean what happens here is that you most of the times get your 10% or 12% ATK and HP boost but you have to use probably heroes that are overall weaker in their kit. Also this doesn’t mean that you get 12% MORE DAMAGE or take 12% LESS DAMAGE! It’s just the base stat which will not make that huge of an impact, however, take a loo at the Racial Advantage in SOULS:

souls racial advantage

Also, what all those sources that have this as your main criteria don’t mention, the racial advantage gives you 20% EXTRA DAMAGE which is so much more than the racial bonus, so this is the only thing to really care about if setups are tricky to beat!

Team Builder For SOULS

So, with this out of the way, here’s how my team builder works in easy steps:

Step 1: You start with the base setup of 1 frontline + 2 midline + 2 backline and pick the best heroes from the section below for each line. In most cases this works already fine.

Step 2: If your team doesn’t work, here’s what you adjust:

  • Frontline goes down too quickly: you switch your setup to add either another healer to the backline or mid-line OR you add another frontline hero so you run a 2 frontline + 1 midline + 2 backline setup and repeat to pick below the heroes you have from the list based on their ranking
  • Fight times out (not enough damage) but frontline holds up: this normally means that you have too much healing and not enough burst in your setup. Use more damage by swapping out ideally your midline heroes which are normally damage dealers but not the craziest ones and put a damage dealer there (can be ranged)

This seems annoying now, but normally you have your setups founds after a few times so you know what to switch around in any of the cases – if your basic setup fails there is normally only one reason for that which is either not enough frontline or not enough damage. Often times players search hours and hours for the weakpoint or whatever instead of taking that up.

Take out the enemy heroes before they take down your frontline or make your frontline hard enough to give your damage dealers time to snipe out the enemy team. That’s it.

So, that was a ton of foreplay here, this is the list here that I ordered by:

  • Frontline: Those are your frontline heroes, not much thinking about their kits, their job is to stay alive, nothing else
  • Midline: Also not much thinking to be done here, they can take some hits and deal damage and some give a little support
  • Backline: is divided into healer, support and damage

By the way, take a look at my tier list of all heroes in SOULS here, this will help you decide which heroes to prioritize.

  • Any Position

These heroes can be put in ANY position like a wilcard wherever you want.

  • LuluS+Best Build
Amazing energy battery for your team and also nice healing and shields on top of that - useful in any team and worth building at any point and to any point.Race: ElfEarly: SMid: S+Late/End: S+Abyss/Sanctum: S+Best Build

  • Frontline

These heroes work well in the frontline.

  • RichelleS+Best Build
Great burst protection and supporter. Not that needed at the very start but later she is crucial for many battles or your team will get wiped out before your turns even start rolling.Race: HumanEarly: AMid: S+Late/End: S+Abyss/Sanctum: S+Best Build
  • TarosS+Best Build
Great tank to mitigate damage for your allies and some self-healing that comes really handy in many situations.Race: LightEarly: AMid: SLate/End: S+Abyss/Sanctum: S+Best Build
  • KaionSBest Build
Nice damage and the ability to strike in a line and reach backline enemies can be really good. Espcially strong early where he simply carry and nukes, that will cool off a little but still you will run him later in the game as well.Race: HordeEarly: S+Mid: SLate/End: A+Arena: SAbyss/Sanctum: SBest Build
  • ZekeSBest Build
Great tank with silence, damage mitigation and self-healingRace: DarkEarly: AMid: SLate/End: SArena: A+Best Build
  • OlgaA+Best Build
Ally buffer and some healing. Doesn't pop too wild and weirdly enough I only made her work well in the medium chapters in SOULS and she is not that great in the beginning as her role is simply not needed and towards end-game her abilities are not strong enough anymore.Race: HumanEarly: BMid: B+Late/End: A+Abyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • ZagrakoA+Best Build
Very good damage output and the ability to stun enemies around the target can become priceless.Race: DarkEarly: AMid: ALate/End: A+Abyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • BabuABest Build
Kind-of tries to do it all, with damaging, self-healing and shielding and debuffing but after all doesn't do any of it really good so I rather have more specialized heroes in my tea, that really shine at those roles.Race: ElfEarly: BMid: BLate/End: ABest Build
  • HarfaB+Best Build
The silence and energy control is nice, but Harfa is not a very durable tank and needs a ton of support to stay up well or I don't see any justification for a spot in my team here.Race: UndeadEarly: BMid: BLate/End: BAbyss/Sanctum: B+Best Build
  • RakanB+Best Build
Where should I start here? A tankthat shields himself based on the damage dealt is bad as the shield is just very weak. Gain more attack when HP is low, well a tank should become more sturdy with lower HP to give healers enough time to heal him up. And apply silence when dying?! Unless you're really close you don't see an impact here once your tank is down. Just the whole kit is not there and useful.Race: HumanEarly: BMid: C+Late/End: C+Abyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • LagouBBest Build
Just not that useful. Why would you need to tank frontrow? There is nothing in his kit that is particularly useful and his only reason is being a meatshield and that is nothing he does too well with his base stats. Overall not a hero I recommend running.Race: HordeEarly: BMid: CLate/End: CAbyss/Sanctum: ABest Build

  • Midline

These heroes work well in the middle row.

  • AolmondSBest Build
Cleaning debuffs and healing is just amazing. Unless you're in the very late-game, she can normally keep your team alive easily.Race: ElfEarly: SMid: SLate/End: SAbyss/Sanctum: SBest Build
  • UlionSBest Build
Nice targeting with the enemy that has the highest attack that will help you get rid of very dangerous formationsRace: LightEarly: AMid: A+Late/End: SBest Build
  • DolucosSBest Build
The chain attacks are really strong and loads himself up with more and more energy. Great damage dealer overallRace: HordeEarly: AMid: A+Late/End: SAbyss/Sanctum: SBest Build
  • SanderSBest Build
Great damage and enemy speed reduction that can mess a lot with synergies is very valuable.Race: ElfEarly: AMid: A+Late/End: SArena: SAbyss/Sanctum: SBest Build
  • AbalaA+Best Build
Tanking and taunting and shielding allies to keep them alive, becomes more important in later tages of SOULS where you really need that feature.Race: ElfEarly: BMid: B+Late/End: B+Abyss/Sanctum: S+Best Build
  • ZagrakoA+Best Build
Very good damage output and the ability to stun enemies around the target can become priceless.Race: DarkEarly: AMid: ALate/End: A+Abyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • CocoABest Build
The damage is not breathtaking and the debuff removal can be done by many other heroes and her self-sustain is not too strong.Race: ElfEarly: B+Mid: B+Late/End: ABest Build
  • DextorABest Build
Good damage but also buffs ally attack and loads up energy very well. If you pull him early you might see him struggle and his role gets more important in the later stages but absolutely a hero to have on your list long-term in SOULS.Race: UndeadEarly: AMid: B+Late/End: ABest Build
  • TelferB+Best Build
The bleeding makes Telfer a good damage dealer in SOULS; but sometimes you just need burst and the full potential remains lackluster. In the earlier tages not a great hero as fights won't last long enough to really make the damage over time happen.Race: HordeEarly: BMid: B+Late/End: B+Arena: B+Abyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • ZenonB+Best Build
Damage is not too great and the healing block is very specific in terms of use-case. More a niche hero than a universally useful hero in SOULS.Race: UndeadEarly: BMid: CLate/End: BAbyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • OdeliaB+Best Build
The stun and the emergency healing is great, but he is more an extra healer if you need to keep up some frontline (espcially something you have to do in later chapters). Earlier in SOULS you rather want a healer that targets the full team and not just the single hero that needs it most but in later chapters a single healer often enough can't keep your team alive and having this emergency healer is really important.Race: HumanEarly: BMid: B+Late/End: B+Best Build
  • CalixBBest Build
Can enable your carry by provoding energy and strike in a line to chip backrow but unless you're up against a setup where you run a lot of abckrow-chipping heroes and need to get rid of a certain backrow hero.. I don't see too much reason to run Calix.Race: HumanEarly: BMid: BLate/End: BBest Build
  • AruruC+Best Build
Another hybrid role of damage/healing and on top of that needs to kill enemies to gain attack. Very much RNG and much has to fall in place here to amek this hero work well.Race: HordeEarly: CMid: C+Late/End: C+Best Build

  • AdoraS+Best Build
Amazing control with her puppet skill, cleanse debuffs and also heals and self-shields make her quite versatile and her targeting let you also choose what target she tries to turn into a puppetRace: HumanEarly: AMid: S+Late/End: S+Arena: S+Best Build
  • SolinaS+Best Build
Really strong in keeping your team alive and buffing. That alone is already putting her into one of the best kits in SOULS already, but with Awakening you even gain revive on top of that. In every stage and sitaution an amazing hero that will work will all team setups.Race: LightEarly: SMid: S+Late/End: S+Best Build
  • JackS+Best Build
Wild backline targeting and increasing dodge makes him harder to kill. Quite a great assassin and self-heals for damage dealt and buff removal. Really strong and bursts with extra versatilityRace: HordeEarly: AMid: A+Late/End: SArena: S+Abyss/Sanctum: SBest BuildBest Teams
  • LenaSBest Build
She is frequently sleeping enemies and dealing damage along the way. Little lacks in her kit is that her damage output is not that overwhelming and as support she only heals herlself and provides some magid defense. Mainly good for her control ability putting enemies to sleep.Race: LightEarly: BMid: ALate/End: SArena: SBest BuildBest Teams
  • BenzelSBest Build
Great damage dealer and the shield-breaking becomes more and more crucial.Race: DarkEarly: AMid: SLate/End: SBest Build
  • CarmenSBest Build
The damage over time damage needs some time to start rolling but once you're there and don't need burst damage, her kit will output some serious damage and also her reviv-blocking can be vital in many situations.Race: UndeadEarly: AMid: ALate/End: SAbyss/Sanctum: SBest Build
  • MiliaSBest Build
Great burst executioner that helps cleaning the enemy team and prevent low-HP enemies to still perform and can enable a lot of potential. Amazing value overall and great damage output as well and personally one of my favorite heroes in SOULS.Race: HumanEarly: BMid: ALate/End: SBest Build
  • NuelSBest Build
Great burst damage and on top of that enemy control of enemies and energy battery for your own team.Race: LightEarly: AMid: SLate/End: SBest Build
  • SolA+Best Build
Good damage output and damage over time and his biggest value is that he will target all enemies so you can chip backline enemies effectively.Race: HordeEarly: AMid: A+Late/End: A+Best Build
  • LilithA+Best Build
Snowballing and absorbing enemy ATK and Energy control of enemy energy with self-healing is a super versatile kit and holds up well in all stages of the game. Early-game she doesn't reveal her full potential but that will develop later on when you get her higher and unlock more of her kit.Race: DarkEarly: AMid: A+Late/End: A+Abyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • KenABest Build
Nice chaining attack that also can add damage over time to chip backline enemies. He needs his full kit to work the way he does, so don't get frustrated that he really struggles in the earlier chapters simply as you don't have the important passives unlocked.Race: HumanEarly: BMid: B+Late/End: ABest Build
  • RipperABest Build
I don't really understand the hybrid here between chipping backrow and debuffing and then also buffing same row dodge rate. Overall doesn't make much sense and there are better alternatives.Race: UndeadEarly: AMid: ALate/End: ABest Build
  • VoidABest Build
Deals damage and part of that heals which can be a great passive healing while he still deals good damage. More valuable in later chapters as in the earlier stages of SOULS he lacks damage and can't heal by himself and becomes more valuable when you have to run two healers in your team later in the game.Race: UndeadEarly: BMid: BLate/End: B+Abyss/Sanctum: A+Best Build
  • AmandaB+Best Build
Several flaws- Her targeting and debuffing of the enemy with the highest ATK sounds great and providing energy when dying useful - but the damage is simply not there and she dies too often and fast for the energy she provides so I rather have an hero in my team that stays alive long enough to really make a differenceRace: UndeadEarly: BMid: CLate/End: BAbyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • BahzamB+Best Build
Needs to kill and revive to really work - if that is not happening he doesn't work too well and looking at all battles I used Bahzam in SOULS I can tell you there is a lot of RNG involved.Race: DarkEarly: BMid: BLate/End: BAbyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • FionaB+Best Build
Emergency healer but not too important before you enter the late-/endgame of SOULS. There she has more moments to be the game-changer in your team.Race: ElfEarly: BMid: B+Late/End: B+Abyss/Sanctum: B+Best Build
  • GalanB+Best Build
Only valuable to target certain backrow formations and actually only a end-game hero you really need in SOULS, before that you will not gain too uch value or actually need him.Race: ElfEarly: CMid: BLate/End: B+Best Build
  • TaniaB+Best Build
Burst damage for the front-row if you need to break through but actually I see any more universal damage dealer that can do that and that work more reliable than her.Race: ElfEarly: BMid: BLate/End: BAbyss/Sanctum: ABest Build
  • AshBBest Build
Ash is really a hero that needs the right setup to work with lifesteal and dying allies to debuff. I personally think he is too specific to be higher on the list.Race: UndeadEarly: BMid: BLate/End: BBest Build
  • FletaBBest Build
Strike down the target with the lowest HP, so far so good and works well in the early/mid stages of SOULS but simply doesn't has enough damage later on to keep it up and make a good impact.Race: UndeadEarly: AMid: ALate/End: BBest Build
  • ParuBBest Build
His damage simply doesn't scale enough and many of his self-sustain features either trigger very rarely or are too weak to make a difference.Race: HordeEarly: CMid: CLate/End: CAbyss/Sanctum: B+Best Build
  • IdinaC+Best Build
Targeting and freezing enemy backrow enemies sounds great but her damage is just not there and unless you really need that she is just not too useful, no in early, mid or end-game and even there you have way better options.Race: HumanEarly: CMid: C+Late/End: C+Best Build
  • AruruC+Best Build
Another hybrid role of damage/healing and on top of that needs to kill enemies to gain attack. Very much RNG and much has to fall in place here to amek this hero work well.Race: HordeEarly: CMid: C+Late/End: C+Best Build
  • NaruCBest Build
The healing multipliers are just not there and at the end the only real reason is to release an ally under a control effect. And that is just very little to run Naru in your team.Race: HordeEarly: CMid: CLate/End: CBest Build

Conclusion

This is it and I hope it helps you build your teams better in SOULS. If you have questions or any suggestions how I can improve this, please post a comment below and I will be happy to reply and evolve this team building guide for SOULS.
