The recommended emblem build recommendations you can find in the game are quite generic, here is the emblem build that I recommend:

Thanatos Exclusive Weapon
Important to note before we talk about his Exclusive levels… he self-buffs his crit rate to up to 60% so don’t overdo adding crit rate to him with a goal of around 60% is absolutely fine if you have his Exclusive Level 1 (without his Exclusive Level 1 go as hard on crit rate as possible). The other levels are also insane executioning. His Level 2 gives you great passive damage whenever another target acts and with Level 3 you will make him execution his target harder and harder and harder until it is down. Realitically, you use Thanatos as boss killer or PvP burst so getting to Level 3 is exactly what you need to make him deal damage as there is no tomorrow. But even if that’s not possible for you, his Level 1 Exclusive is so important as he can buff up his crit rate by up to 60% so you can build him towards crit daamge to land crazy hits with him.
Best Gear & Stats for Thanatos
Those are the main set items where you always equip 2 items per set (or maybe 4) to get the main set bonus. The more complex part are the substats as each gear item and artifact will get random substats that can be great or not. Spirit Beast for Thanatos
Please mind since Spirit Beasts are used for the whole team, what I did is test them with typical heroes that you would pair Thanatos with and then test the Spirit Beasts. This, of course, makes this a more general test to see what typically will work well and if you use your team you still want to test multiple ones to see which one actually works best for YOUR lineup; this is more like a advice which Spirit Beasts typically will work well:
