Pets are the latest addition in Heroes vs Hordes and they are pretty similar implemented to other roguelike games like Survivor.io where you have an active pat that has avtive skills and two passive pets. More on that later – at the end of the day building your pet in Heroes vs Hordes is a long-term project so you only want to invest in pets that are worth it, right?
Below you can find all the insights you need to actually choose the pets you invest resources and time in to get the best possible outcome.
What are the best pets to use in Heroes vs. Hordes?
There are two important things that you have to keep in mind when choosing your pets in Heroes vs. Hordes:
- Avtive / Passive: you have one active pet, that is the pet that goes into battle with you and uses all the skills except the passive one. The passive pets only provide their passive skill and nothing else
- Hero Synergies: there are little synergies with the heroes themselves. Some pets work a tad better with ranged heroes and other are more close-range. But at the end of the day only very few have big differences so you can build your pets without having your heroes in mind too much

Tier S+Only legendary pet so far and incredibly strong and trumps all other pets in Heroes vs Hordes easily. Espcially when you ascend it to get all skills unlocked the damage output is incredibly strong.
Tier SPretty much the same level as Crystalsaur but the hard way to build him during the event makes him a tad less useful for me.
Tier SObtainable through the Avantar limited event but you can get him for free and for that he is a good choice actually.
Tier SObtainable through the Ghostbusters limited event but you can get him for free and for that he is a good choice actually.
Tier A+Really good and the only way there is such a gap here to the top is that the legendary pets are so overpowered.
Tier ANot as much damage as the other pets up here and the pushback is the only benefit to make up for it - but also some heroes simply don't synergize too well with that so be aware of that.
Tier AReally good mechanics that always work well no matter what. The passive is not the greatest due to the low proc rate but overall for most players still probably the most realistic choice.
Tier ANice since you can use it to either group up enemies or just deal damage with a ranged hero.
Tier B+More close range mechanics than othe rpets.
Tier B+Actually great passive with the slowing that you always can use really well.
Tier BCan have some weird mechanics honestly with the way his passive work. I don't know if that is expected or bugged right now but I would rather wait it out in critical runs.
Tier BActually good mechanics and easy to max and while farming pet metarial a good choice with solid universal mechanics - I mean the stats won't scale like higher-rarity pets which makes the bottleneck here but a solid choice early on for sure.
Tier C+Not really too well working and with ranged heroes even less. Weakest pet in Heroes vs Hordes.
