Grand Theft Auto 6 has officially been delayed until 19 November 2026.
It’s now the second pushback by Rockstar and even some of the franchise’s most die-hard fans are skeptical about the new release date.
In a statement, the company said it was “sorry for adding additional time” to the wait and that the delay will allow them to “finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
Recent reports have also emerged that a further delay until 2027 could be on the cards, although this was recently squashed by a Rockstar insider on X (formerly Twitter).
So, after all the leaks, delays, and constant speculation, is GTA 6 really going to come out in 2026?

GTA 6 Will Come Out in 2026, Barring Any Last-Minute Problems
The people at Rockstar aren’t stupid.
The legendary game publisher is more than aware that the never-ending delay of GTA 6 has started to cause unrest among fans.
It is, after all, close to 14 years since GTA V was released, a game that has sold over 220 million copies to date and generated billions in revenue.
We’re now entering a new era for gaming where many of Rockstar’s long-time players are putting down the controller and Gen Z has started spending less on video games.
Any further delays to GTA 6 would only harm the goodwill of the fans and could even cause lower sales projections, as what was once an insanely hyped game is now quickly turning into social media’s biggest meme.
No matter what happens, GTA 6 will still break sales records, but those sales could potentially have been higher if the game had originally dropped when first intended.
And if the rumours of a $100 price tag are true, Rockstar could be playing with fire, as there’s no guarantee that once-happy customers will be willing to hand over the cash, especially if it fails to deliver on the hype.
One thing for sure is that Rockstar has to stick with the new release date of 19 November 2026, which we think will happen.
Why GTA 6 Keeps Getting Delayed
Rockstar has long-maintained the reason for GTA 6’s is a commitment to perfection.
There’s no reason to doubt this, either, as Rockstar is the same company behind all-time classic games like GTA: Vice City, Red Dead Redemption 2, and, of course, GTA 5.
In an era where live-service releases are rushed out and players are constantly jumping between new games and retro games, you have to have Rockstar’s desire to get this absolutely right.
It is important to recognize, though, that the delays of GTA 6 are also a marketing ploy, as anticipation is still the most valuable currency in gaming.
By constantly delaying GTA 6 and leaving fans in a state of confusion, it supercharges the hype and anticipation surrounding what almost every analyst in the industry believes will be the biggest-selling video game of all time.
Sure, there’s a case to be made that fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise deserve better considering how much money they’ve pumped into GTA 5 alone, but Rockstar are sticking to their guns.
There are other reasons for the constant delays, too, like the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic and Rockstar’s mission to provide better working conditions for its developers, as the days of “crunch” culture in gaming are now a thing of the past.
We also know that GTA 6’s initial story was rejected three times for reportedly being “too dark”, leading to Dan Houser leaving Rockstar Games for good.
Combine all of these factors and you arrive where we are today: GTA 6 has been delayed all the way to the back end of 2026, and there’s still no absolute guarantee that Rockstar will follow through with it.
GTA 5 Michael De Santa DLC – As Well As a Rumoured GTA 4 Remaster — Set to Fill the Void
Rockstar knows that fans aren’t happy at the moment, so they’ve finally brought the iconic Michael De Santa — one of GTA 5’s main protagonists — to GTA Online.
This is a long-overdue treat for fans, as we haven’t seen Michael in the Grand Theft Auto universe since GTA 5 launched back in 2013.
Michael returns in “A Safehouse in the Hills” update with new mansions, pets, and more on December 10, so it’s something to help tide fans over in the build up to GTA 6.
There are also ongoing rumours that a GTA 4 remaster could be on the way in 2026, which would give players a chance to relive the past (it was only back in 2021 when Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, a remastered collection of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.)
For some, a remastered GTA 4 and Michael De Santa GTA Online update won’t be enough to keep them satisfied, but it’s certainly better than nothing.
Should Rockstar Fans Be Worried?
With 2026 upon us, should Rockstar fans be worried about GTA 6?
The good news is that we’ve probably experienced the worst of the delays and that the game will — more likely than not — be coming next November.
Rockstar has pulled off a marketing masterstroke here, although even they know that another delay would push a large section of the fanbase over the edge, so they’ll look to avoid that at all costs.
In the build-up to the summer, plenty of new information on GTA 6’s two protagonists — Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval — will come out.
You can bet your money on a new trailer, too, as Rockstar will want to get the hype train rolling again in time for the November release.
