The Most Anticipated Games Currently In Development

Video game developers and triple-A studios have been busy developing new titles that will leave gamers worldwide in awe. After all, a little suspense is needed to keep everyone on their toes. That being said, hundreds of new games are being developed as we speak. We know little about some of them and nothing at all about others.

But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. This way, the hype is kept alive until the day of the launch, by which time the new game will either be a major hit or a significant disappointment, depending on who you ask. Nevertheless, if you wish to follow the latest news about a particular game you’re interested in, you can visit thelostgamer, for example, and other relevant sources that are reporting about the latest developments in the video game industry all the time.

Some gamers are ecstatic about the upcoming games, while others are reserved. It’s not like major studios didn’t fail to deliver on their promises a couple of times in the past, so skepticism is completely normal here. But let’s not digress any further and explore the most anticipated games currently in development instead, shall we?

Unknown Mass Effect Title

The Mass Effect trilogy EA Games and BioWare developed quickly became a major commercial success a few years back. It was truly a significant hit that even earned the trilogy the title of the best RPG game and best video game story awards. Mass Effect is still loved and played by millions of fans worldwide.

But on March 21st, 2017, EA released the spin-off Mass Effect: Andromeda, a flunk by all standards. So to recover, EA assembled the old BioWare team who previously worked on the original Mass Effect games to create, let’s call it Mass Effect 5 for now as the official title is yet unknown. The official teaser trailer was dropped at The Game Awards 2020, showing that the new game will take off where the last one (Mass Effect 3) left off.

Aside from a poster and blog post from BioWare general manager Gary McKay, all we know that the game is in development and that we have yet to determine when is the official release date. The trailer shows promise, and we must give BioWare that. However, there’s still so much we still need to learn about Mass Effect 5 to draw definitive conclusions.

Gothic Remake

Okay, most of you are too young to remember the Gothic franchise developed by a German company called Piranha Bytes back in 2001. Those who remember are excited that THQ Nordic decided to create a complete remake of the original Gothic.

After all, this was one of the best RPG games ever created, even though the franchise got little media attention until Gothic 3. By that time, the studio ran out of funds and had to drop the later finished and polished project by the fans. The much-deserved remake is still in development, and it’s anyone’s guess when the release date will be, hopefully soon enough.

We’ll see the Unnamed Hero save the world again with new graphics and fabulous new looks. The Gothic franchise was top-rated back then due to fantastic storytelling, world-building, and difficulty. The game punishes those who are unwary and makes you approach things more strategically. Whether or not THQ Nordic will stay true to what gave Gothic its unique charm remains to be seen.

The Witcher Polaris

Everyone has heard about the Witcher franchise by now. Whether you’ve read the books, played the games, watched the show, or all of the above, you should know that the new Witcher installment code-name

The Witcher Polaris is currently in the works. The beloved CDPR is developing it; even though they brought gamers’ rage upon themselves with an early release of Cyberpunk, people still love them for mainly staying true to the Witcher source material and lore. The new Witcher saga will continue, and Polaris is just the first game of many, according to CDPR CEO Adam Kiciński.

It’s yet to be determined whether the saga will be carried by Geralt or the name of the new title. We do know that CDPR claims that the new saga will be an entirely new level of AAA RPG games. Everyone does wonder if the new Witcher will be a hit like Wild Hunt or a bust like Cyberpunk, but time will tell which side is right.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

Another bombshell by BioWare was intended to be the sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisition in 2014. Although development began in 2015, the staff was pulled from this project to work on other tiles like Andromeda and Anthem, so Dreadwolf was technically canceled due to a shortage of staff and high turnover.

The project was restarted in 2018 but stalled due to a lack of staff. In 2023, EA confirmed that the Mass Effect folks were returning and would also work on Dreadwolf. Don’t lose hope for all of you who loved the Dragon Age franchise, as the project seems alive and kicking.

How much alive is unknown, as EA is vague with the progress, releasing some footage here and there to keep the excitement going for now. It will take some time to finish this game, but the franchise will go on, and RPG fans worldwide will eventually rejoice.

Starfield

Starfield is one of the most anticipated video games in recent years and for good reason. The game is being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. Microsoft will publish it as an Xbox and PC exclusive. The game is a science fiction RPG that promises to offer players an immersive open-world experience set in space.

The success of Starfield is vital for Microsoft, as it is one of the company’s flagship titles for the Xbox platform. Microsoft has invested heavily in its gaming division over the past few years, acquiring several major studios, including Bethesda, to bolster its exclusive content offerings.

With the release of Starfield, Microsoft hopes to attract new players to the Xbox platform and retain existing ones. The game is expected to be a major draw for players looking for a new and unique gaming experience, and its success could help solidify Microsoft’s position in the gaming industry.

Closing Words

As mentioned before, hundreds of games are being developed at the moment. Unfortunately, there’s no room to name them all. How the upcoming titles will turn out is unknown, but we hope they’ll live up to the hype generated for years. Letting fans down is not great for business, but that didn’t stop significant studios from doing so in the past. So fingers crossed that such a scenario won’t happen this time.
