There he is again, the Ice Wizard. He made his first appearance in December 2016 and now makes his yearly comeback for the Clashmas Event around Christmas again.
Many have been disappointed that he is only a seasonal troop and will probably celebrate the next days when he is available more than anything else.
In fact, the Ice Wizard is not only a little different themed Wizard – he is a completely different troop so I have been writing this strategy guide here to give you everything you need to know about him to use him properly.
How the Ice Wizard Works
Let’s jump directly into the stats first. I have them here for you and at the first look, the Ice Wizard pretty much look like the regular Wizard.
A little more DPS, a lot lower costs to train and the same movement and housing space make it look like the perfect choice to use.
In addition, the Ice Wizard also freezes defenses to make them deal damage slower – so is there anything that this post offers? Yes, there is and it’s extremely important!
The important thing is that the Ice Wizard targets defenses, so the whole behavior of the Ice Wizard is completely different.
Ice Wizard Strategy
The Ice Wizard targets defenses primarily, so he has the same target as tanks like Giants and Golems.
In reality, when you simply swap the Ice Wizard in for your regular Wizards you will face two big problems that will make your attack fail.
First, the Ice Wizards movement speed is rather fast, so he will follow your tanks and tend to overtake them very soon because he ignores the trash buildings. This will make your Ice Wizards run into traps quite often and also make him a target for many defenses.
The regular Wizard is a great troop to create your funnel at the beginning of your attack and cleaning up – that’s the main purpose in most troop compositions for him.
The Ice Wizards will ignore trash buildings, so you can’t use them to make a funnel as they will just take down defenses – that’s the second important thing to know.
So do not switch in the Ice Wizard for your normal Wizards and think you have more attacking power!
What Compositions Does The Ice Wizard Work In?
I was playing around with the Ice Wizard a lot to find out how to use him best and the good news is, there’s nothing like attacking strategies he work in or not, well, expect air attacking strategies where ground troops don’t make that much sense.
You can switch several Ice Wizards into your composition easily and deploy them in between your other troops. This will lower the damage dealt on your troops and not rely that much on the Ice Wizards survival, because they can freeze some defenses and also target them earlier.
As a rough rule I would recommend you to use this amount of Ice WIzards:
- TH7: Max 4 Wizards
- TH8-TH9: 4-6 Ice Wizards
- TH10: 6 Ice Wizards
- TH11: 6-8 Ice Wizards
Again, the Ice Wizard is a nice ADDITION to your attacking composition and don’t make an own attacking strategy.
All you need to keep in mind that he works different than the normal Wizard and when you follow my tips you will save yourself some first bad attacks 🙂
