3 Star Attacking Guide for GoBoWi

With the latest balancing adjustments, a new attacking strategy has been rising fast for the TH11 players among us and it will allow you to 3 Star even maxed Town Hall 11 bases. It’s actually a modification (or evolution) of the B*Witched attack that has been useful in the past months.
The nice part about this strategy is, that you are also able to make solid attacks in Clan War, where your opponent has an Anti 3-Star layout that features big compartments.

How GoBoWi Works

The central point of this strategy is building your funnel on the outside with your Golems and Witches and getting your Bowlers along with your Heroes into the core. If you do that right that, you have a solid 2 Star and, often times, even a 3-Star, even against maxed Town Hall 11 bases.
Now I want to show you how it works.

Which Town Hall Levels does GoBoWi work?

Town Hall 10 & Town Hall 11

Main Purpose Of This Attacking Strategy

Clan War, Trophy Pushing and (Gold&Elixir) Farming for TH11 (in Titan League)

Pros of GoBoWi:

+ Easy (kind of mass) strategy
+ Safe 2 Star, when you know how to build a funnel, with good 3 Stars possibility

Cons of GoBoWi:

– Requires solid upgraded Witches & Bowlers (Level 2 for TH10; Level 3 for TH11)
– Extremely expensive in Dark Elixir

Troop Composition for GoBoWi

You can play around with the spells a little bit (more on that later), but the main composition is pretty fixed.
Your army setup is:

  • 1 Golem & 1 Golem in your Clan Castle
  • 10 Witches (you’ll deploy 5 on each side)
  • 15 Bowlers

When it comes to spells, I recommend using:

  • 1 Poison Spell (especially in Clan War) – but you can also use 1 Earthquake for the core area
  • 3 Jump Spells (they will help your troops going through the base without hitting walls too long)
  • 2 Rage Spells or 1 Rage Spell + 1 Heal Spell
  • Clan Castle Spell: Heal Spell or Rage Spell

I personally recommend using Poison for Clan War only as you don’t have to expect many defending CC troops in regular Multiplayer Matches. If you want to use a Heal Spell or not is up to you, but if you haven’t maxed out your Witches and Bowlers, you’ll find the Heal Spell very helpful.

GoBoWi Step by Step

Now let’s take a look at the different steps that this attack requires. The most crucial part of this strategy is not the timing of deployment, it’s that you build a wide funnel on the outside.
GoBoWi attacking consists of these 3 steps:

  1. Building a funnel
  2. Send in Bowlers & Heroes
  3. Use Jump & Rage Spells

Let’s have a closer look at these steps.

Step 1: Building your funnel

This is the most crucial part of the whole attack – if you do this wrong you will see your forces walk around the base and will struggle for the 1 Star.
When choosing the side you want to attack, you will have to keep the following parameters in mind:

  • Don’t attack in a way that your kill squad will go into the corner of the base, always attack from the “flat side”
  • Don’t attack into 2 Inferno Towers at the same time
  • Try to go for the Eagle Artillery first

Let me show you two bases first.

In this first base, you will attack it from either the upper right or lower left side. Don’t go from the Town Hall side as this will force you to run into both Inferno Towers at the same time and the traps around the Town Hall (that you can expect in such a layout) will deal massively more damage the more troops are grouped together.

In this second base, you would go from either the upper left side or the lower right side to go from one Inferno Tower straight to the Eagle Artillery. This way, you’ll prevent running into two Inferno Towers at the same time.
Building your funnel itself is not that complicated. You will deploy one of your Golems in the area close to the corners and then get your Witches in as soon as the Golems grabbed the attention of the defenses.

Then you will deploy your Bowlers right after them in a pretty much straight line between your funneling troops.
This will help you clearing off defenses and also tank for your Witches as well while their Skeletons are clearing off structures on the outside of the walls.

Make sure to have your first Jump Spell down in the center area of your troops, this will help you dragging all your troops toward the center instead of splitting up and running around the base!

Step 2: Kill Squad

Now it’s time that you deploy your Heroes in the center area of your troops to go for the core.

Now you have all your troops on the battlefield and it’s time to drop your spells!

  • Make sure to get your Jump Spells in front of your troops in a way to open up as many compartments as possible (mind, they will also use Jump Spells to jump in and jump out of the compartments!)
  • Use your Rage Spells in the core area, you want your troops to deal their damage as fast and powerful as possible in there to get it down.

That’s pretty much it.
I also have some videos that will show you some replays to give you a better feeling about it.
This TH11 replay shows perfectly how the funnel is built (corner Witches, Bowler wall and Jump Spell in the center) to attack into the Eagle Artillery. Keep in mind the attacker has chosen this side because of the Eagle Artillery and not because of the Town Hall!

Here’s also a nice video for TH10 showing how the funnel is built as well:

Conclusion

This attacking strategy fills in a gap nicely – the high Dark Elixir costs, however, are not making it useful for everyone. Those of you who are short on Dark Elixir (or haven’t upgraded Bowlers and Witches) might want to use LaLoon instead.
